Training Harmony: Helping Multiple Dogs Thrive Together

Living with more than one dog can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also bring challenges.

Different personalities, energy levels, and routines can sometimes create tension within the home. The good news is that small changes in training and management can make a huge difference to everyday life. 🤝

One of the most important things in a multi-dog household is making time for individual attention. Even dogs who get along brilliantly still benefit from one-to-one training sessions and walks. Individual time helps build confidence, strengthens your relationship with each dog, and prevents competition for attention or resources.

Clear routines can also help dogs feel calmer and more secure. Feeding times, walks, rest periods, and training sessions that feel predictable can reduce stress and help dogs settle more easily within the home.

It is also important to recognise when dogs need space from one another. Not every interaction has to be shared, and some dogs benefit from having their own resting area where they can fully relax. Giving dogs choice and space often prevents frustration from building up.

Rewarding calm behaviour is another simple but powerful tool. Many owners focus only on unwanted behaviour, but reinforcing quiet moments, relaxed body language, and positive interactions between dogs can help create more harmony over time.

Training harmony does not mean your dogs have to be best friends every second of the day. The goal is a calm, safe environment where every dog feels comfortable, understood, and supported. 🐶
